That Fine Line

Some things are really hard to say. Like – I’m sorry. Or – I forgive you.

Easy to say when you don’t mean it. But when you are really ready to forgive, or love, or apologize…

Every apology is an act of faith.

Every time you forgive someone, every time you forgive yourself, it is a leap into the unknown.

Will the apology be accepted? Or will the forgiveness be met with defensiveness and resentment?

There is no way to know.

And when it is hardest, it is the right thing to do.

It is the only way to move on. To let go of the past, let go of old habits, and re-write stories that aren’t getting us where we need to go.

And yet, all of these outdated feelings have become so familiar. They have seeped into the soul and made themselves a part of who we are today.

Maybe they were useful. They served their purpose back then. But now it is time to abandon them.

It can feel like giving up. But we can stop being part of a story and still love whoever wrote the book. Especially if the author is yourself.

So why are these things so hard to say?

Because we don’t know what comes next.

Letting go of the familiar is scary. Moving on can feel like leaving something important behind.

Boldly – even foolishly, choosing to believe that everything is going to work out.

Everything is going to be ok.
